We have runners of all ages, abilities and interests, from GB team members to the old donkey who is writing this page, and roughly equal numbers of men and women. Most of us don’t get near the prizes but we all love to run on the fells. New members are always welcome.
Membership of Black Combe Runners costs £10 a year, much of which you get back as pies.
Most of us joined for the weekly social runs on the best fells and to the best pubs in the South Lakes, and for the company and competition on races and other days out, but with membership you also get:
- Opportunities for training sessions with qualified fell running coaches
- Participation in the club championships, winter league and other competitions
- Free, often compulsory access to the assembled wisdom of generations of fell runners
- An extremely irregular newsletter
- Pie and peas at the AGM (possibly: check with treasurer)
- Authority to wear the green and black vest in fell races and enter as a Black Combe Runner.
- Fewer people following you on fell races (if you are wearing the vest)
Black Combe Runners is a member of England Athletics. You can also personally affiliate to England Athletics to get road race discounts, but you don’t have to.
If you plan to enter many fell races, or would like to support the sport, you should also join the Fell Runners Association (FRA) which gets you priority entry to popular fell races and often cheaper entry too.
Joining the FRA and/or affiliating to EA is necessary to run in one of the larger relay events but not usually necessary for a local fell race. Either way, you are welcome to all our training, runs, winter league, and socials.
Second Claim and First Claim Other members are welcome.
