Black Combe Runners

Every summer Black Combe sets itself a challenge. This usually (but not necessarily) takes the form of a long relay run, so in 2007 we ran the Cumbria Way from Carlisle to Ulverston and 2009 we ran from the Greyhound in Shap to the Greyhound in Grizebeck. There is usually a leg for bikers and a leg for walkers, and there is always a big barbecue at the end. Sometimes it doesn't rain on the barbecue.

In 2010 the challenge is set by Sue: we're to run Joss Naylor's Lakes, Meres and Waters route in under 24 hours. Unlike Joss we're starting in the south, which takes the total distance up to about 120 miles.

The relay sets off from the top of Esthwaite Water at 6.30pm on Friday 13 August. It should arrive at Coniston Water some time around 6pm on Saturday the 14th, so the barbecueing will begin at 5.30 on the lake shore just north of the Bluebird cafe: exactly where depends on who else is there, and in how many boats.
